Stubborn fat pockets that create a double chin or thick neck can make this goal seem elusive, even when following a healthy diet and an active lifestyle. Distinguished female facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Agata Brys is double board-certified and fellowship-trained in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. With unwavering dedication to her patients, she aims to deliver facial plastic surgery results that enhance self-confidence and improve overall quality of life. What Is Liposuction?

Submental or neck liposuction is a minimally invasive body contouring procedure to extract fat permanently from the neck, chin, and jawline. Targeting pockets of stubborn fat, liposuction addresses a double chin and creates more jawline definition and a trimmer facial profile.

Submental fat is typically resistant to diet or exercise. Liposuction sculpts the chin, jawline, and neck by removing this excess fat.

Liposuction offers numerous benefits, including:

  • Eliminating stubborn fat
  • Rejuvenating facial profile
  • Recontouring chin, neck, and jawline
  • Creating a more youthful facial appearance
  • Tightening skin
  • Long-lasting results
  • Renewed self-image
  • Increased self-confidence
  • Improved proportions

Liposuction and Weight Loss

Liposuction is a body contouring procedure. Submental liposuction is intended for patients at or near their ideal body weight, with a BMI of 30 or less, who experience stubborn pockets of fat that are resistant to a balanced diet and exercise regimen. However, it cannot address the loose skin that may be left behind. Loose skin can be particularly noticeable after liposuction or weight loss medications, creating what has been popularly termed “Ozempic face.” Dr. Brys will determine whether liposuction alone will achieve your goals, or if you need a procedure like a neck lift to address loose skin to enhance your facial appearance.

• Nicotine products, including tobacco, vaping, gum or patches, decrease your body’s ability to heal following surgery, causing complications, delaying recovery, and negatively affecting your results.

• Maintain weight through diet and exercise.

• Organize post-surgery transportation and care by a responsible adult for at least 24 hours after your procedure.

• Arrange a clean, comfortable place to recuperate.

• Ensure your medication prescriptions are filled and purchase any necessary supplies. Obtain Vitamin C, Arnica Montana, and Bromelain tablets, as these promote healing.

Liposuction Procedure Overview

Before your liposuction surgery, you’ll meet with Dr. Brys and a board-certified anesthesiologist. Dr. Brys will review the details of your procedure and answer any final questions you have.

Once you are safely sedated, Dr. Brys will begin your liposuction. With small, well-concealed incisions beneath the chin and/or behind the ears, Dr. Brys will insert a cannula to loosen and extract excess fat to sculpt and refine the appearance of your neck, chin, and jawline. Liposuction typically takes one hour.

Liposuction Recovery and Healing

Following your liposuction, you can expect bruising, swelling, tenderness, and numbness in the treated area. These effects should resolve within one to two weeks; however, residual swelling may last up to a year. Dr. Brys may prescribe pain medication to reduce discomfort during your recovery, however, over-the-counter products, such as acetaminophen, are typically adequate for pain control.

To aid the recovery process, Dr. Brys recommends:

One to two weeks post-surgery:

  • Plan to take three to five days off work.
  • Organize post-surgery transportation and care by a responsible adult for at least 24 hours.
  • Wear the compression garment or chin strap provided by Dr. Brys day and night in the first seven days to minimize swelling and support your new contours.

Two to four weeks post-surgery:

  • Continue wearing this support garment at night time for at least six weeks post-surgery or as instructed by Dr. Brys.
  • Resume most normal activities, including exercise, two to three weeks post-surgery.

How Soon Will I See Liposuction Results?

Liposuction recovery depends upon the extent of your procedure, health, and age. During your consultation, Dr. Brys will discuss an estimate of your recovery time.

Following submental liposuction, patients may notice immediate enhancements to their facial profile. Expect swelling and bruising to obscure your results for two weeks; residual swelling may take several weeks to resolve. As your neck and chin areas heal, you will see a more youthful profile and facial appearance.

Liposuction permanently removes excess fat, but weight fluctuations may impact the remaining fat cells. With thorough follow-up care, you can expect long-lasting facial plastic surgery results from your submental liposuction by maintaining your healthy lifestyle and stable weight.

How Much Does Liposuction in New Jersey Cost?

Liposuction procedures are highly customizable, and costs will vary by patient and depend on the extent of each procedure and method used. During your consultation, Dr. Brys will determine the scope and cost of your liposuction surgery.

Liposuction surgeries are cosmetic procedures. While these procedures are not covered by insurance, we offer financing with approved credit. During your consultation, our staff can assist you in applying for financing.
